When I try to click on a menu item such as View or Help, and try to scroll down the list, the cursor jumps to another menu item and you can't keep the cursor on the menu long enough to select anything.

 

Also, the font used in the interface is so tiny that it's barely readable. Is this a function of my screen resolution? I'm running Windows 10  on a Dell laptop but FM17 ran just fine on a Lenovo laptop.

 

As it stands right now, I can't use FM17 for anything - it's pretty much useless. FM15 let you select small or large icons, etc. Was that removed in FM17?

Good morning all you FrameMaker wizards. I've run into an issue (er, learning opportunity) that I cannot figure out.

 

I have a table of format "Symbol Tabl2col." Image of cell margins included.

 

I have an object style "Symbol Frame Large" - anchor type included.

 

I have a paragraph style where the images are placed called "TableCell - Vertical Center." It is set with alignment = Left.

 

When I put it all together, the gap to the right of my images (which should be 7.5 points) does not exist. I have tried many adjustments on table format, object style, and paragraph style and cannot seem to get the correct gap to appear.

 

Someone out there knows the answer. (I love the internet.) Thank you in advance for your help!!

Hi,

I have a FM 11 book with the existing Index, which I keep updating from release to release. This time, when creating Index markers, they do not appear in the generated Index. Typically, after creating Index markers in chapters, I update book, and then new Index entries appear in the Index. But not this time. Could you please advise how this can be fixed?

For reference, I'm working in a table, maybe that has something to do with it.

 

The autonumbering format is working fine, but somewhere in the middle, it just stops working. I'm using the formula: A:< >< >< >< >< >< >< >< >< >< ><n+>.< =0>< >< >\t (yes I understand it's long, even getting rid of "the fat" it still won't work correctly). What it does is instead of 1,2,3 etc. it's just all 1's. Even when I use a+ instead of n+ it's just all a's. The formula is the EXACT same throughout the entire table, but it just doesn't work.

 

Getting rid of the "A:" works BUT I need it. For example:

My table will have different sections so it'll say:

Title

1. Info

2. Info

3. Info

Another Title

1. Info

2. Info

3. Info

I can't have the numbering to continue for it to be through 6, it has to start over WITHIN the one table. Therefore I'll tag the title to have "A:" in it, that seems to do the trick to reset the numbers after the titles.

 

Now that you know that, I can't take out the "A:" in my formula to number, because then it just connects ALL of it and I'll go up to number 50, when it just needs to have 3 or 4 here and there.

I have a document that I've edited extensively. There are now many images that are not being used. Is there any way to quickly identify which ones are not used in the updated document, short of looking at each one and checking if it appears in the document?

Folks,

 

I just downloaded TCS from Adobe, and my antivirus (intego VirusBarrier) reported W32/CorkaMIX.A in the download "Assets1_1.zip"

Is this a real virus or a false positive ?

Hello, could someone help me with next problem?

Fm12 problem.

Script goes through book, opens file, saves it and then closes it. This operation is executed for all files in a book.

Problem occurs after 110 - 120 file is processed. Either FM crashes completely or finishes, but book is closed and not all files are processed.

I could attach the book and script to simulate the situation (in the case folder c:\temp, has to exist, log will be saved there)

I wrote a book with several chapters in FrameMaker 10 and there was no problem creating TOC, Index and so on. For an edition with color I changed the page layout, imported the figures (using Illustrator 10.) Now with the new page layout, when I try to create TOC I get the message "Unable to process HTBookCol in book component as it creates cyclical loop. Please fix the loop." I do not know how to fix it. Can anyone tell me what it means and how to fix it? Please bear in mind that I use FrameMaker but am not a program specialist. Thanks for your help.

Graphic placed at the front on the master page continually placed at the back when switching to body page, and therefore hidden.

Not sure if it's possible to attach the FM file in question, if it is I'll gladly do so.

Is there a way to import some (not all) same name para styles to multiple chapters (files) in a book overwriting old settings without apply/update all function in Frame Maker vs. 12?

 

I have a book that has 25 chapters (files) and need to 5 to 8 para styles updates and only want these styles updated. Can these files be updated globally?

I’ve yet to figure out how to manage updates globally of same name para styles without performing the following function for each individual chapter in the book:

1. Open the file
2. Paste the updated para styles (5 to 8)
3. Open each para style
4. Apply
5. Update all
6. Repeat this function for each chapter in the book for each para style.

It is very time consuming to complete this function for 25 individual files. For five para style updates for a book with 25 chapters equates to 125 functions—there must be a more efficient process to manage style files.

Any suggestions are much appreciated on how to manage style updates in a book with 25 chapters?

I'm trying to create a script to save a folder full of FM files to TEXT.

 

My script is running fine until I get to file.Save() and I get a 'file.Save is not a function' error. Can someone help understand where this has gone wrong? Thank you.

Hi all,

 

In instances where we wanted to have custom text act as a cross-reference link (i.e., not the destination's text, or a topic title, etc.), we created "gotolink" and "newlink" markers. The links work within Frame, but some are not working in the PDF output (some, however, are).

 

Any ideas?

I have been using FM 2105 on a virtual windows machine through my mac, but have just bought a laptop to be a dedicated FM machine and have FM2017 downloaded. All linked to the dropbox files, all looks good.

 

When I open a book, it shows all the files in the book on the left. Then when I open one of the files, the top menu bar with File/edit/view/xlst/window/help disappears. Nothing I can find an get it back.

 

Then when I shut the file, they remain invisible until I click on the </> button whereby they all come back.

 

I can't edit any documents as I need that menu!

 

What's going on (or what have I missed!).

Hello folks

 

I'm trying to make a script to print my current doc (before merging it with other script)

I have A4 format document, I need to print it to my "Adobe PDF Printer" with Registred Marks in an A3 Format.

(my default printer is Adobe PDF but with A4 Format)

 

My first step whas to look at the Framemaker scripting PDF file, to learn how to print my doc.

 

I see only "SimplePrintDoc method to print.... but

The help, speak about the "SetInt()" method to set the properties ... never find the SetInt() in the help !!!

So i try changing the ActiveDoc parameters.

 

But changing PDFRegistrationMarks/ PDFPage(size) or PrintPaper(size), PrintRegistratinMarks ... do nothing when i want to print.

 

So I guest that SimplePrintDoc juste print with the default Printer parameters.

Is there a way to print with the parameters i want?

My company has just updated to Framemaker 2017 in order to generate HTML5-based CSH. This is the first time we are trying to implement context-sensitive help for our software.

 

Our developers have taken a look at the HTML files I generated ("published") with Framemaker and say they cannot create a link to the markers because they are just listed as "CSH <number>" in the code. This number changes depending on the actual number of CSH markers before in the document.

The infamous map file contains the Map ID and the Map number. But neither of them appear in the generated HTML file. How are the developers supposed to link my markers to the application when the HTML file does not contain any unique information about them?

 

Can you explain in more detail what the map number does? Are we missing anything? Why do I use a unique Map ID in my markers when it does not appear anywhere in the HTML file? Why are there a Map ID, Map number AND this CSH number in the code?

We are trying to centralize the location of our content, but I have not had success uploading FrameMaker book files to our SharePoint libraries either using SharePoint itself or the connector in FrameMaker.

• If I upload the book file and its dependent files in the SharePoint interface, I can find no way to actually associate the individual files with the book file.
• When I upload the book file using the connector, the individual files are associated with the book file, but I cannot add properties (metadata) to the individual files or check them in to the SharePoint repository. I can perform these tasks with the book file, but checking in the book file does not check in the individual files.

 

Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, how did you solve it?

I have the page numbers set as I want them in each file of the book. The files are:

1. cover

2. TOC roman

3. LOT roman

4. content numeric

 

The LOT reads the page numbers correctly however the TOC does not, it is not clear what it is doing as it starts listing with 1 as wanted but the remaining page numbers continue to be wrong ending up with being off by 5 pages at the end of a 44 page document.

 

I have been all over the forum and went through everything I could find and I can't seem to fix it. Can someone please offer some guidance?
