The Fm 10 Scripting Guide seems to say that the flags parameter for GetText() is a bitmask, and I should OR constants to get different kinds of text items and so forth. Is this really true or is there some simpler way to tell GetText() what text items I need? Or do I need to brush up my rusty bitwise OR skills? Or did the tech writer just cut and paste form the FDK Reference?

I recently upgraded from FM9 to FM12 running on Windows 7. When I open an FM9 doc in FM12 and save it as FM12, I don't see any of the previous varialbles in the Variables list. I can Find them when searching for Any Variable, but they are listed, so I can't edit them.

I'm trying to use Doc.Find() to find paragraphs that have changebars. Is Find() advisable generally or should I spend my time using some other method, like iterating through Pgf objects?
I'm also assuming that the place to look for changebars is the Pgf objects (Pgf.ChangeBar), not the TextItem objects. Am I on the right track?

I can open FrameMaker 10 through the EXE.
I can open FrameMaker 10 through a .book file.
I can open a .book file from FrameMaker 10.
I cannot open FrameMaker 10 through a .fm file.
I cannot open a .fm file from Framemaker 10.
I've tried multiple .fm files, so this isn't isolated to s sngle corrupted file.
I was using FrameMaker 10 yesterday, but it doesn't work today.
I updated Flash this morning, but have not installed any other programs.
On a fresh install of FM12, changing to either of the two full screen modes causes my open document to "hide" behind the book pod. It's behaving as if the document window has lost it's ability to dock. Although I can minimize the book pod and see most of my document, I'd rather not have to do that.
I'm assuming that the full screen modes are working "as designed", since I haven't seen anyone else complaining about it. So, if this is not a bug, how can keep the document winow positioned between the left and right pods?
Here's the workspace in standard scree mode. The open document is docked between the left and right pod and has a tab.
Same workspace in full screen mode. Ths same file is now partially hidden behind the book pod.
With the book pod minimized, it's clear that the document window no longer has a tab that I could use to reposition the window.

I am running FrameMaker 12 in Unstructured mode.
When I try to print a book (Unstructured) to a Postscript file, FrameMaker 12 crashes.
I can print a individual FrameMaker document (Unstructured) with no problems.
This behaves like the same FrameMaker 11 (Unstructured mode) printing problem that was fixed by patch 11.0.1.
Any ideas?
Will there be a patch to fix this problem in FrameMaker 12?

I've a document with references of all documents of book , a reference page that define styles and structure of document. When I save the document as html, it's work fine but the imagenes names is changed, can i keep original image names when i save a document as html?

Can a document within FM12 be saved in a format for the usage with FM11 without losing any data?
I'm creating Webhelp files directly from Framemaker 12 - with no Robohelp interaction, just using the Publish option. (We do have TCS 5 Trial version, but I'm experimenting with just the FM 12 output.)
I want to create some drop-down captions and body text, and am applying these styles to text using Special>Publish Options>Dynamic HTML effects>Drop Down Caption and Drop Down Body.
This works fine when it's simply a single line for the caption, and a basic, single paragraph for the DDB. But if I apply the DDB style to a chunk of text including, for example, a Note style, numbered list styles and bullets, the formatting in these styles is lost, and cross references cease to work.
Is this just something I have to live with (and use only single paragraphs in plain Body text for the drop down text)? Or is there a workaround that anyone knows of?

I am trying to use Keyspaces in FM12 and somehow FM does not let me create a new keyspace from scratch. Is there something I am missing here?

My Paragraph Designer settings are for some reason not being consistent for each included para tag in the Table of Contents. The apppearance of each one is set to :
<$paratext>[tab]<$chapnum>-<$pagenum>
with the tabs set to 6.5" R (w/ leader dots).
I've just added another para tag. When I try to set the exact same tab for this one as all the others, I get the message that "The tab position is too far to the right."
How could the same tab work fine for the other tags, and be too far to the right for this one? All settings for this tag are identical to the others.

I have a problem with Conditional text in Structured FrameMaker.
I have to use conditional text for different customers. I have to use the same content and should get displayed for the particular customer when I publish that particular customer. It is more or less product conditioning.
How do I deal with it.
Please give me the solution at the earliest.

whenever we try to open a file in adobe framemaker 10 this is the error its poping out, kindly get me a solution for this. The "Times" Font Family is not available. "Times New Roman" will be used in this session. The "Helvetica Bold Oblique" Font is not avaialbe. "Arial Bold Italic" will be used in this session. The "Helvetica Bold" Font is not available. "Arial Bold" will be used in this session. The "Times-Italic" Font is not available. "Times New Roman Italic" will be used in this session. The "Helvetica" Font is not avaialble. "Arial" will be used in this session. The "Times-Roman" Font is not availalbe. "Time New Roman " Font is not availalbe. The "Times-Bold" Font is not available. "Times New Roman Bold" will be used in this session.
Paragraph Designer only has reference frame placement options for Above or Below the paragraph. I wish there was an option for "Frame Beside Pgf."
Has anyone found a solution to mimic this function (with only one or two clicks)?
I've tried installing and re-installing and umpteen Live Chat sessions. I've tried calling Adobe Tech. Support. "Current wait time is between 57 minutes and 1 hour."
I've followed all of their instructions but still, bizarrely, when I click the "FrameMaker 12" option under the installed ATCS 5 folder (Start > All Applications), what opens is "FrameMaker XML Author 12," which cannot open .fm files and prompts me to "download the full program."
The last Live Chat person told me to uninstall ATCS 4, and then, when I logged in to the Adobe site again, I could click "License this Software."
No such link appeared. And now, we are stuck without a mission-cirtical software package, days before a release.

Adobe InDesign, and PageMaker before it, have/had a helpful feature allowing users to place view-only horizontal and vertical lines over a document. You simply clicked on the horizontal or vertical ruler on the side of the page and dragged, and the line would appear and move to wherever you stopped dragging it. These were very helpful for aligning objects and columns and i.e. locating the centerline of a page. I'm sorry -- I cannot remember what this feature is called ...
Does Adobe FrameMaker 10 have any similar feature? (I could use it!)

Hello, I just purchased framemaker 8 and I wish to install it on a windows 7 platform. Is there a simple way of doing this? Does anyone know how to install it?

My .book file has several chapters plus a TOC and an IX. Everything is formatted with the Letter (8.5 x 11) page size. I've saved the book to PDF several times and everything worked fine.
Today, when I save to PDF, my TOC and IX files are suddenly coming out 7.5 x 9, although their setting for "Letter" page size have not changed. They do this within the book and also as individual files.
The only thing I have changed today is the size of a graphic frame on the master page of the title page--a completely separate file from the TOC and IX.
I have checked the page layout settings of all the template files in my C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker11 folder, and everything is still set to the usual Letter size.
How do I fix this, and more importantly, what caused it in the first place?
When FM notifies that a font is unavailable, is there a way to find out what font it is that is unavailable? So I might get the font, and make it available?
