can anyone help create variable for page number RunningH/F for every other page blank? I have created one but need a variable for the BLANK page number to be added automatically (like the current page number)! I do not want to build a page number manually for each page simply because I can not get the blank page number to automatically be added incrementally. They need to look like.......FO-1/(FO-2 blank), FO-3/(FO-4 blank), FO-5/(FO-6 blank), etc.

External Word Files
I am research whether or not Framemaker would be a product that suits our needs. We would like to create a technical document, but have the majority of the files live outside of the Framemaker file in Word Docs. This would allow my client to make easy updates to the document and allow for multiple users to edit the documents outside of Framemaker.
Can Framemaker be used to create the structure of the technical document but have most of the content live outside of Framemaker?

Control table row or cell formatting via EDD context rules?
Hi...
I think I know the answer to this, but is it possible to control table row or cell properties (like shading, padding, borders, etc) through context rules in an EDD? I'm not aware of any way to do this, but thought I'd toss it out there to be sure.
Would love to hear that I'm wrong.

Font Issue v.12
I opened and edited a document that was authored in an older version of FrameMaker and I received the message about the document using unavailable fonts, to reformat using available fonts, click OK. I have saved the document and all, but it fails on publishing stating it cannot due to font issues. Any suggestions?

Running H/F Values - Can they be imported?
On the Master Pages of each file within a book, I am trying to find a way to insert a Running H/F variable that would import a value from the Title page.
In other words, when the value is updated and saved on the Title page, the variable value in every file within that book would update as well.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

Cannot PDF Document
I am having trouble converting my document into a PDF. I have run into this issue in the past, but was able to resolve it by moving my files to my desktop and converting them there. An error message pops up saying, "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found." after Adobe Distiller runs for awhile. I am not sure how to fix this issue. Can anyone help me with this?

FM11 crashes on every book update
Sometimes it's just a crash, sometimes I get Internal error 11024, 18319245, 15830943, 1583335.
I'm guessing one of the files is corrupted? What can I do? How do I troubleshoot this?

FrameMaker 11, pictures don't stay within their anchored frames
I've recently started experiencing a strange phenomenon. I put an image into an anchored frame on its own paragraph and set it to At Insertion Point.
In the past, if I wanted to hide part of the image, I resize the frame so that it is smaller than the image.
But recently, when I do that, the part of the picture that should have been hidden shows outside the frame, as shown in the example below. I want to hide the bottom part of the image, but it hangs out of the frame.
Does anyone know what to do to fix this?
I just printed the page, and it printed correctly with the bottom part of the image not showing. So this seems like a monitor or screen aberration.

italics, variables and cross-references
"Oh Niels, we've decided to use italics for the second word in the product name!"
No problem, I thought, and adapted the variable definition to include a character-style switch:
<Default ¶ Font>Name <!italic>touch<Default ¶ Font>
No problem indeed, except for cross-references :-{ The ToC shows Name touch where I've used the variable in headings, the headings show Name touch in the correct font … but cross-references show Name touch. OK, in this very particular case I could be result-driven and replace Name touch in the cross-references with Name touch. It would be good to know, though, whether there's some finesse I'm missing – always possible, always educational.
The cross-reference format, by the way, is simply
<$paranum> <$paratext>

FM10 crashes when saving book after update
Hi,
I have seen this problem reported before and contacted Adobe Support for a solution. We were provided a workaround that is NOT efficient where we basically create the same book in a new folder; this works for a couple of saves and then we're back to crashes. We have over 20 FM users, and the problem seems to be spreading among several of us. I am very disappointed at the level of response. Last update I received from Support was that our FM book was passed to R&D. It has been at least 2 months since then, and I have not seen any resolution.
About a month ago, another person contacted me and asked me for a convenient time for a phone discussion. I have supplied several options and sent reminders, but I have not heard from anyone since then.
This is highly disappointing. I hope someone can take this issue seriously and help.

FM 11 TOC Template
How do I use an existing TOC template (included with my software) to create a table of contents. I know how to generate a TOC but not how to "import" the toc template.

gives unexpected results
Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. I wanted to use the chapter title name in the footer of my master pages so I went to the master page, deleted some static text i found there then tried to add the building block <$chaptertitlename> but what i got was the short file name instead. Is there a fix for this?

Extendscript - Book component type - ES bug or doc error?

(FM 11, Win XP)
When you query ComponentType for an FM document book component, you get hexadecimal 0x200 which happens to equal Constants.FV_BK_FILE. However, the documentation says that this property should return one of:
• Constants.FV_BK_FOLDER (0x02) - Folder
• Constants.FV_BK_GROUP (0x40) - Group
• Constants.FV_BK_FM (0x8) - FrameMaker document
• Constants.FV_BK_MIF (0x10) - MIF document
• Constants.FV_BK_XML (0x20) - XML document
Given the supposed MIF and XML options, I'm not sure if there is a bug in ES or if the documentation is just wrong. An XML component also returns 0x200. Any thoughts?

We made a document on a pc with many images and text box and when we open it on otehr pc the tes in the box doesnt
appear we lost the last word or last section of the text in the box.

How does one start a table at the insertion point and not below the cursor line?
I'm trying to add tables to the tops of pages and at the tops of columns. When I insert the table, however, it always drops down to the line below. I must then manipulate the font size of the line above it so that my columns are close to even across the top. Then, if later on I change the text I'm left with fixing the 2 point font size. It's annoying and time consuming. Surely there is a way to add the table at the insertion point. Surely?

Index number issue
I have a book which uses a numbering scheme of chapter.page. Each chapter starts again at page 1 (for example 12.1, 5.2, etc.). When I create an index, it is using only the page number, so I end up with multiple page 1 listings, page 2 listings, etc. How do I edit the numbering scheme of the index entries? It is not done in the paragraph designer as is done in the individual chapters, so I am not sure where to look.
I am using Framemaker 10.

Customizing Microsoft HTML Help in FrameMaker 12?
My company is currently using FrameMaker 11 with WebWorks ePublisher 2013.2 to generate context-sensitive Microsoft HTML Help (CHM). ePublisher makes it very easy to customize the global appearance of each page. For example, we have a product banner in the header, and company logo, copyright notice and contact info in the footer. We also have external resource files that contain context-sensitive help IDs (in combination with Topic Alias markers in the FM source files).
We are evaluating the FrameMaker 12 trial to see if it can replace FM11+ePublisher.
Although we are able to generate a CHM successfully in FM12, the customization options appear to be very limited, and it is not clear how to generate context-sensitive help.
Is it possible to customize the Microsoft HTML Help template/layout/theme? FM12 provides many options for the Responsive HTML5 format, but not Microsoft HTML Help. I don't mind modifying template files outside of FM12, if necessary, but I need someone to point me in the right direction.
Can FM12 publish context-sensitive Microsoft HTML Help? If so, where do I place the external files that contain the help IDs?
Any help is greatly appreciated. We need to make a decision real soon about whether to stick with FM11+ePublisher or upgrade to FM12.

Converting text to table " symbol changes columns
When I create a parts list from tab delimited text, the " (quote) symbol moves to the next column when it is the last character in a column. I noticed this when I changed to Windows 7 using Frame 7.2, the problem also occurs in Frame 11.
My process starts with a text file of a parts list; the text is imported into Access and the output save as a table in an.rtf file. I copy the table text from the .rtf file and past it (paste special, text) into FrameMaker. I select the text and convert the text to a table using a table format I created for this process. The " symbols stays in the correct column each step of the way until I paste the text into a Frame document, the " symbol moves to the other side of the tab symbol. The process has been working fine for years up until I upgraded to Windows 7.
As a test I've converted the rtf table to tab delimited text and the " symbol is on the left side of the tab symbol; when I copy and paste the text into Frame the " symbol is on the right side of the tab.
For example;

FM9 makes landscape pages into portrait when saving as PDF
I have FM9, Windows7 Professional 6.1.
One doc has landscape pages, but when I save to PDF I get portrait pages cropped left and right.
I reinstalled FM9, got the updates (which weren't in the download of FM9 -- whyever not?), and I got the right orientation once. Next day, back to portrait for these landscape pages.
Today I tried to install FM12 as a trial, but it won't. I get to the "Currently Installing Adode PDF Creatino Add-on XI" and that's where it stops, 42% complete. So that won't be any help. I was hoping FM12 would not have this problem.
