When I right + click on an element, I can choose Assign ID to Element. Is there an ExtendScript function or method for doing this? Thanks.

FM running VERY SLOW
Someone, anyone, please help. My FM is running so slow, just scrolling up or down 1 page takes 15 seconds. I can't get anything done! This started a couple weeks ago, not terrible at first, but progressively getting worse. I also keep getting the "Not responding" message at the top. The only thing I can think of that might be causing this issue is that I signed up for the Windows Insider Program a few weeks ago, to abate the PDF-generation issue.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone have any ideas?

Empty pages keep returning FM 2017
Hello all,
I have a couple of files that I am having issues re: blank pages.
I have tried to set pagination to Delete Empty Pages and I have selected "Delete Pages" from the Format-Document menu. Then when I recompile to book, the empty pages return.

Clearing the underline check box
Hi,
I have an unordered list which now has underlines.
I have tried everything I can think of to remove the underlines from the list, but that has not happened. The only other option I can think of is to try and recreate the list, but unless I can remove the underline from the font setting, it probably won't help.
How can I clear the underline check box from the List Paragraph style in the Paragraph Designer?

Watermark for all pages in a book
Hello all,
FM 2017
In order to have a watermark appear on all pages in a book, must I apply the watermark to all master pages (Right, Left, First) for each document?
Or is there a way that all master pages can have a watermark by default?

Book with Portrait and Landscape files - able to save as PDF?
I'm trying to save a book file as PDF - it contains a portrait page that are letter size (8.5 x 11), and two landscape pages that are tabloid size (11 x 17).
When I try to save as PDF, if I keep the page size as 8.5 x 11 in the PDF settings, the tabloid pages get cut. If I change the PDF settings to 11 x 17, the portrait pages are too big.
Is it possible to save the book as PDF with the different page sizes? Or do I have to make two books and then combine the PDFs?

Framemaker 11, unable to copy table cells.
Good day everyone. My company uses unstructured FM 11. A co-worker of mine is unable to right click and copy table cells. He can highlight text in the cell, and right click and copy. But when he selects the entire cell, and right clicks, the option to copy is greyed out. The keyboard commands of Ctrl C and V work fine. It happens in all FM file he opens. However, when he swaps to Structured FM, the option returns. I have opened the same files, and everything works fine for me in both unstructured and structured. Has anyone encountered such an issue?

Reference pages and the Mapping Tables within
Hello all,
Looking at the reference page for a FM document (created by my predecessor) I see two mapping tables called "Headings Table":

I also see this table and wonder why it is there (I would expect to see this table if the document I were viewing was an appendix but it's not, it is a normal chapter in the book):
Is there anything odd/wrong with this picture or is something just odd/wrong with me?

Custom font icons don't render when I publish a structured Frame file as HTML5 help
We have a custom font set installed on Windows that we use to display icons specific to an application. I'm working with a test file in structured Frame to make sure the output generates as expected. When I print the structured Frame file (.xml file) containing the custom icon font to PDF (using the Adobe PDF printer to create a PostScript file and then the Distiller to generate the PDF), the icons render as expected. (I am using Windows 10 1803, with the latest patch.)
When I publish the same file as HTML5 help, the icons don't render. The name of the icon is displayed instead -- for example, "delete-icon" is shown instead of an image of a wastebasket.
Matt from Adobe suggested the following:
"Your HTML5 issue can be resolved if you post the images in question on your server, then modify the CSS to use them."
These aren't "images" per se. They are icons in a custom font set.
I need instructions for:
- Posting the icon font set to the server (I suspect someone on the Dev side will need to do this)
- Modifying the CSS to use the custom icon font. Please post an example showing how to do this in the CSS file.

HTML5 output of FrameMaker 12; low graphic resolution
Dear,
With FrameMaker 12 we are preparing on line documentation.
When we import an image (example FM_Before; dimension 650x175; Bit depth = 24) then in the Imported Graphics Scaling screen, we have to select a dpi setting.
Whatever value that is selected, the HTML5 generated has always a low quality (with 300 dpi > 223x71; Bit depth = 24 or with 72 dpi > 882x249; Bit depth = 24).
Is there a possibility to keep the original quality & sharpness in the output.

Retaining the page numbering in a book
Hi All,
We are currently switching from Unstructured to Structured Framemaker. I am using both Adobe Framemaker 7.1 and FM10. I am using the structured tools in the FM7.1 where we need to create a separate application for each XML file with its own DTD, Template etc.,. I created around 25 xml files and created a book with all the XML files in FM10.
Each XML file has their own template i.e. an FM file(ex. Title page.fm). I have set the numbering in the differently in each template.
For example: Section 1 - Page 1001
Section 2 - Page 2001
Section 3 - Page 3001
When I print these sections individually there is no problem in page numbering. But when I combine it into a book and print the whole as a book page nos are changed.
For example: Section 1 - Page 1
Section 2 - Page 1
Section 3 - Page 1
Can anyone suggest any solution for this?. I

Need to update document, but lost the FrameMaker source files
I have made a book some time ago and I have now to edit it because of mistypeS, but i lost the original FrameMaker book, and I only have the PDF...
I tried your methods but most of the vectorial draws, logo and some paragraphs are not imported and I have a lot of blanks (the pages number is doubled) pages at some places.
(I am not so sure that I originally did it with frame maker)

The selected PDF job option does not exist in the current installation fm2017 on w10
This is what I get when try to save as PDF. There are no obvious instructions in fm for supporting save as PDF.

Error: Attribute is not declared for element
Error: Attribute 'Hidden' is not declared for element 'BitFieldsPostTableDescription'
I keep getting this error even after declaring the attribute in the EDD and generating a new dtd file. I also updated my Template.fm file with the new element definitions.
Any ideas what is causing the error? Is something missing?

Many problems with FrameMaker
I have inherited a few gigabytes of old documents , and a version 9 of in FrameMaker.
I am trying to print to PDF.. I've worked on one book so far.
- The worst: nine times out of 10, the printing process hangs.
- I saw in a forum that the PDF printer for newer versions of Distiller were incompatible with the FrameMaker 9. I uninstalled Acrobat DC, reinstalled the PDF printer for FrameMaker 9, but no progress.
- I read also you had to check that Adobe PDF was selected as the PDF printer. Here are the settings on my PC:

- I see the jobs in the print queue. I tried deleting them an hour ago, they are still there:

- I also get messages relating to fonts

- In the consfile.txt I see error messages relating to missing fonts:
The "Open Sans ExtraBold" Font is not available.

- Not the worst, but very annoying: every time I open the book and I try to print to PDF , I get messages for the fm documents saying the documents are locked by fvila:

I have to click Reset lock and open, for each document. (fvila is myself). - For the same documents, I have loads of .recover files, .backup files, and .recover.backup files
- I systematically have to change the PDF Job options. The dialog box offers a custom option I don't have. But it comes back every time

Losing anchored frame borders when publishing Framemaker 2017 to HTML5
I am publishing a short Framemaker 2017 book to HTML5. All graphics in the book are imported into anchored frames. The anchored frames (and not the imported graphic) have a border applied. In the HTML5 output, only the anchored frames that contained .tif graphics still have a border. The anchored frames that contained other graphic formats (.gif, .jpg, .png) lose their border. Any ideas?
