Hi all,

I converted my structured document to an XML file. While converting the file to xml, the console showed many errors and most importantly, it gave a message that XML file is not validated. I created an EDD file> exported the EDD definitions > structured my document as such > Saved the file as an XML. Please see the screenshot here. My document only contains a table. The question is, when I reopen the saved XML file back in FrameMaker, I do not see the table as formatted here. I just see the words EXP. Am I missing a step? If anyone can explain or walk me through the process, I would highly appreciate it.

I am trying to add a footer and a background image that I can type over on the Title page. However, when I navigate to Master pages, it does not include the Title page and only allows me to add a footer and the background image to the following page. How can I set this up for the Title page of the document? I have already tried Format > Page Layout > New Master Page. It creates a border on the Title page but when I go to Master Pages, the Title page is still not included and I cannot add the footer or background image.

We are in immediate need of an independent contractor with FrameMaker expertise to help with a 2 month project in the Phoenix area.

 

My company, Research Collective, a human factors and usability consultancy, has been tasked with re-designing an instructional manual for an international medical device manufacturer. Our client is requesting that our re-designed sample be presented in FrameMaker files for their internal review process.

 

Currently our in-house visual designer is working with images and content in In-Design while the researchers are finalizing the desired layout and format. We do not have any one on staff that is familiar with the FrameMaker platform.

I am trying to add a footer and a background image that I can type over on the Title page. Hiya everybody, I'm pretty new to FrameMaker 2017 (and FrameMaker in general) and I have a small problem I'm trying to work out.

I'm editing a manual made by someone else, and I have an illustration that has several "call-out" numbers on it referring to components of the widget referred to with this manual.  What I'm trying to do is to add a cross-reference from each of these text line callouts to the particular section of the book that would allow the reader to click on the number of the component in the PDF and get linked to that section of the manual.  No matter what I try, I cannot get a cross-reference to attach to the text line.

 

What's the best course of action here?

Hi all,

I am struggling with inserting of pictures into document. I am able to insert/import picture (via File>Import>File "copy into document") into document but sometimes FM is not able to reopen document with imported graphics and internal error is shown. Documents is possible to open when folder (AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\12) is removed but this is just workaround. This issue occurs unexpectedly. I inserted different types of pictures even eps file and there is no difference. I am sure that this issue is caused by element because I inserted empty Graphic (custom element of graphic type)  element into document and system behavior is the same.

Hey guys,

 

I just got the task to insert a certain text on empty pages inside a .fm file (the empty page is always the last page of each file).

I already took a look at how to insert a paragraph (How to insert a new paragraph? ). But that only adds a paragraph right behind the last one. Since I do not have a paragraph on the page that I want to insert the text to, I wonder which element I could use to insert the paragraph right at the beginning of that page. Does anyone have a clue how that could be done?

How do I prevent the chapter number of a file in my book from appearing in my running header? I can't figure out how to delete it from the master pages, and it seems like the Chapter Number variable isn't being used. What I really want is to be able to change the word "Chapter" to "Appendix" for just this one file in the book.

FM 2015 (I believe was the version before the latest) did this neat thing where you could display a variables pod (the one that appeared below the doc that let you edit, apply, delete variables) and my double clicking on a variable name, a separate window would come up that would list all the occurrences of the variable. You could click on an occurrence in that list and go there. Boom. (I may not have this described exactly right.... as the update took away my old version.

Now, in 2017, all I get is the variables pod with the list of current variables and the add/edit/delete (etc) buttons. I've found no way to find where the occurrences of a particular  variable live.

 

Am I missing something?

Dear all!

I have no success in changing the case of found items with Find/Replace using Regular expression in FrameMaker 14.0.3.500.

I want change lower case characters after n-dash followed by blank b< the upper case equivalent:

 

Assume no change in maker.ini, hence RegularExpressionSyntax=Perl

Find:      – ([a-z])

Replace: – \U$1 or – \u$1 or – \p{Lu}$1

Consider case: on or off

=> None of the replacements does the job!

 

Then I have tried various things with RegularExpressionSyntax=egrep  or grep.

No success either.

My syntax reference is Replacement Strings Reference: Context and Case Conversion

 

Bug? Wrong syntax?

The TOC in FrameMaker 17 is auto-generating an extra blank first chapter. It regenerates even after I delete it. What setting do I need to change to fix this issue?

Is it possible to execute an Fcode through a Hypertext command? I want to be able to click on a Hypertext link in FrameMaker and have it execute an Fcode. I see this in the FDK Reference on page 800: FV_HypertextFcodeInvalid: Invalid FCode in the hypertext command. But I can't figure out the syntax for doing executing an Fcode in a Hypertext marker. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

 

I'm using Frame 12 unstructured and trying to setup a generated TOC I inherited from someone else. Everything looks great except even pages aren't seeing the formatting I set up on the reference page. All pages have a Flow A. Master pages are set at Right/left.

I have resized a photo in Photoshop down from 34" x 34" 72 dpi to the size I need 146 pt x 146 pt 300 dpi, and saved it as a PSD format to import into Frame 2015. When I import it into Frame, it is reducing it to 24%, even though the Width and Height show 146 pt x 146 pt, dpi shows 300.

 

I have had this issue before and I have not been able to figure out why it does this.

 

Hopefully someone has had this same issue and knows how to fix it.

I'd like to use an image (checkbox_yes.png) instead of a bullet, so as to represent one or more enabled system options instead of inserting full or cropped screenshots. I know I could probably set up a special table for this, but this doc already has too many tables as is.

 

The FM Help only discusses using different fonts to replace bullets, but not images.

 

Can someone help?

I'd like to delete and rename a conditional tag simultaneously.

 

An FM file contains two condition tags: Pro (for experts) and Light (for beginners).

Now, the beginners have turned into experts, and I don't need the tag Light anymore.

The information (formerly tagged Light) should now be tagged Pro, too.

Is there an easy way to turn any Light tag into a Pro tag?

 

Did I miss something in the Show/Hide Conditional Text pod or the Conditional Tags pod?

Is there an easy alternative without converting to/working with a MIF file (and maybe damaging it)?
