My issue: Updating selected paragraphs globally in the paragraph designer doesn't work correctly.

 

1. Create a blank document with two paragraphs: 1st paragraph format: 'Body', 2nd paragraph format: i.e. 'Heading1'.
2. Open the Paragraph Designer.
3. Choose the Font sheet.
4. Commands > Set Window to As Is
5. Select the 1st paragraph.
6. Font sheet > Change the Family, i.e. 'Times New Roman' to 'Arial'.
7. Commands > Global Update Options > Use Properties in the Paragraph Designer: 'Default Font Properties Only' and Update Paragraph Formats: 'All Matching Tags in Selection'

 

The font family in the selected 1st paragraph is correctly updated to 'Arial' (no format overrides).

And the font family in the 1st paragraph's tag ('Body') is correctly updated to 'Arial', too.

That's what I expected.

 

The font family in the not selected 2nd paragraph is still 'Times New Roman' (but with a format override!).

And the font family in the 2nd paragraph's tag ('Heading1') is updated to 'Arial', too!

That's not what I expected.

 

Where did i go wrong? Or is FM buggy?

Where can I change this default behaviour. I want it to default to all file types. I.e. the way all the other FrameMakers have.

I am generating individual books as a set in HTML5 - I have a single book that contains all of the books for the project. I've generated this a few times and had no problems, but now every topic is the same name even though the HTML file name is correct. The book name is correct; the folder name is correct, but the landing page is named the same for every topic. Javascript issues?

 

So Book\Folder\topic.html is now Book\Folder\same-name\topic.html.

 

Has anyone seen this before?

I would like to get the contents of the system variables <$ VolNum> and <$ ChapNum> in XML, but i didn't find.

 

Is it possible ? If yes, what would be the best way ? Attribute? Variable element?

Is it possible to set the TOC to always appear in the HTML5 output from FrameMaker regardless of screen size? So, you'll always see the  TOC when you view the content on a phone or tablet (or resize the browser on a computer screen)? We're using FrameMaker 13.0.5.547.

Hi everyone,

 

I work for a medical device company that is required to develop help for everything, including our mobile app. Here's the question: what's the best way to get the mobile app help INSIDE the mobile app? I understand the other options - HTML5, etc, but am wanting to know specifically how to integrate a user guide with a mobile app.

 

- we don't want users to download 2 apps (one for the app, one for help)

- we can't assume users are connected to the internet for HTML/HTML5 content

 

Has anyone out there done this? Will developers have to include this manually? (Yes, I understand that most apps are easy enough to use that integrated help is not necessary.)

Hi, guess its an easy one but i dont get it. I had import my translation into DITA and it shows in table of contents # instead of special characters. In the chapter itself everything is fine, just the t.o.c. is wrong. Thx for any kind of help

Hi group

 

When I do Edit > Update Book, I see that Show Element Boundaries (as Tags) is switched on again, which is not the idea, of course.

 

Is anyone else seeing this? I'm using 14.0.2.

Can make it work in the DL section - After DL Framemaker_13_LREFDJ.exe and all the update patches it still ask me "the file archive part of FM 15 is missing you need all the parts ...bla bla

 

please advice?

Using FrameMaker 11. Trying to save as pdf. Getting the following error message...

 

"Framemaker: Unknown exception caught in EnumerateFontFamily routine. Please Restart your machine."

 

I have restarted a couple of time. No change.

Hi - I'm updating some legacy documents from FrameMaker 11 to 2017.  Unfortunately, many of the tables show up in 2017 with a cross-hatch pattern around the interior of the cells.  For example, in 11 this table:

appears in 2017 as:

I have two questions:

1. I have not found a way to remove the crosshatch borders using the GUI.  How can I do this?
2. There are thousands of these problematic crosshatch borders in our documentation.  I combed through the .mif files for the FM 11 and 2017 versions and didn’t see any significant differences that would cause this.  How can I fix this problem efficiently?

The first write reports:

When I perform a search in the HTML5 output, results that point to the top-level topics display the filename and path rather than the topic name. Other search results (for secondary topics) display the topic title just fine. I am publishing HTML5 output from FrameMaker 2015.

Hi all,

 

We're on FrameMaker 2015 on both Windows 7 and Windows 10, and use FrameScript to perform various tasks, among them writing to the console when something fails. This all has been working fine for two years. We use the structured interface.

 

We have recently had to reinstall FrameMaker due to multiple crashing issues. With this new install, the FrameMaker console (a text file located at C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\13\consfile.txt) is always empty. It used to always populate on FrameMaker launch  with various messages, for example:

 

Unable to find the structured application 'DITA_1.2_reference'. Please check the settings in ditafm.ini. Also, ensure that the correct structapp file is being used.

Unable to find the structured application 'DITA_1.2_glossentry'. Please check the settings in ditafm.ini. Also, ensure that the correct structapp file is being used.

Unable to find the structured application 'DITA_1.2_glossgroup'. Please check the settings in ditafm.ini. Also, ensure that the correct structapp file is being used.

FrameScript--Version 6.0R1p70  ElmSoft

...

 

Then in FrameScript, we could have a line such as "Write Console (There was an error...blah blah)" and that would appear in the console, i.e. in this consfile.txt file.

 

After this latest reinstall, we didn't change any preferences or do anything different that I know of -- but the consfile.txt is always empty.  Frame doesn't populate it with launch messages, and FrameScript doesn't successfully write to it.

 

Has anyone seen this?  We really need for FrameScript to be able to write to the FrameMaker console file.

Hello,

 

I have a document where I want to use discretionary hyphenation but when I enter one (CTL+ -) it does not hyphenate at the position chosen and causes surpression of hyphenation for the whole word.

 

Why?

FM2017 does not allow you to swap out the icons - it looks like you should be able to change them as there is a Browse button next to the image name. I select my images and the file name appears in the file name, but when you click Open, the original file name is still there. Yet another nail in the coffin...

When I add a list of paragraphs and choose the RD-RefDocs tag and generate the list in my Frame book, the list shows up empty. When I click on the list file in the book, I get a dialog box saying File named "LOP" does not exist.

I am using FrameMaker 2015 release to redesign my company's manuals. I am creating a table tag named Table_Caution. When I insert Table_Caution into a document, I want one paragraph tag to apply automatically to the top right-hand cell and another to apply automatically to the bottom right-hand cell.

I've tried applying the paragraph tag to a table and then hitting Update All in the Paragraph Designer pod and also in the Table Designer pod. When I insert the table again, though, the formatting does not appear, leaving me with a blank table. 

I've tried searching the forums and looking through the FrameMaker manual to no avail. Does anyone know how to preserve the paragraph tags? Thank you.

If I use folders in my book to organize content and then generate the book as HTML5, there are too many levels in the sidebar TOC. I have a folder named Administration with a single file named Install and Configure. When I generate HTML5, it creates a top level folder Administration, a second level folder Install and Configure, then the hyperlink to the actual page is listed. Administration>Install and Configure>Install and Configure. Three clicks to get to a single page. If I remove the folders, then the content is generated correctly Install and Configure>Initial configuration.Two clicks to get to the page. OK, for smaller books that might be doable, but large command references which are alphabetized and contain hundreds of files, not doable.

 

This is FM2017.

I tried editing the index.html file after the output generated. But I don't see any option there. If there is some Javascript file, please let me know how can I edit them.

If it's possible within FM 2017, that would be well and good.@@
