How does FM 7.1 find Distiller when doing a book save as?
Is this environment feasible, FM 7.1, Win 10, Acrobat 11 ?

doing Book save as PDF - getting "Can't launch Acrobat Distiller to create a PDF File" running FM 7.1 on Win 10 with Acrobat 11 - what does this message mean ? How can this be resolved? I do get a TPS file which distills to PDF fine.

Using Publish to make MS Help files; one chapter crashes it
I am using the Publish function to turn a book into an MS Help file (.chm).
When it hits one chapter, I get a "Failed Importing Documents" message and it stops. If I exclude that chapter, it publishes the rest of the book.
Clearly I need to look for something that makes that chapter different from all the others. Where should I start looking?
I've already copied and pasted the same format to all chapters.

i set up a table (3 col *2 row), and in table cell (3rd col*2nd row), insert a ordered list (4 items), while in other table cells, one line text as usual.
Now, i get a error message: empty content not valid for content mode '(entry)+'.
so, what the problem is, and how can i fix it?

TCS 2017 suddenly in trial mode & returns to trial even after inputting license
Hello,
My company has a shared license* of TCS 2017 and starting yesterday one of my coworkers is having a problem with her license. Apparently, she ended up in trial mode somehow and her trial expired yesterday. She tried to add the license key to her account and TCS still showed up as a trial with 0 days left. She then reinstalled TCS completely, but it still won't take her license key (no error, but after the license key step, the installer simply asks her to log in again and enter the license key again, etc). No one else in the office has the same problem.
If I need to contact support - how? As far as I understand, you can't simply send an email, you need to be logged in and have the product added to your account. Given that it's a company license, I doubt my boss will allow me to add it to my personal account... does he need to do it? Or is there a different procedure for this?
* I am not sure if "shared license" is the correct term, but we basically have one key used by the entire department, and Adobe bills us yearly based on the number of people who used the key.

Table rows too high in HTML5
I'm using FrameMaker 2017 and I'm trying to create HTML5 output.
When I have a table row with more than one line of content, the HTML5 output very often (not always) adds additional space in below the text.

- View in HTML5 with unwanted (in this case grey) space below the text:
This effect only occurs if I change the table width under Publish Settings: Settings> Style Mapping> Table Styles to e.g. 70% or 100% or 700pt. If I use the default settings (no settings), the effect does not occur.
This effect occurs in all tables, regardless of the number of rows and columns. If I have a table with multiple rows, the effect may occur in one line but not in the next one.

Reponsive HTML5 scale to content
I'm trying to publish a series of short documents through the responsive html5 setting in the publishing pod.
When I test the output the default stretches the content across the entire width of the screen when viewed on a computer, which looks horrible and is tough reading.
Is there any setting where the default would scale to content so that when the window first opened the default layout have the aspect ratio of the original framemaker document, or the printed page.

Watermark in Framemaker 2017
How do I create a watermark in Frame 17 that will show over tables and graphics? I know how to create one on the master page (and rotate it) as background text for headers and footers, which shows great for just plain text, but I need it to show over photos, drawings, and tables.
I prefer to put watermarks in Framemaker before I PDF the doc because the watermark can't be removed compared to if I put it Acrobat. (I assume that last statement still is correct--other than locking down the PDF, which I don't want to do?)

Fetching AFrame for each page

I want to fetch all Aframes information in an active doc whose layout has three columns for each page.
I wrote the code below:

This code does not work correctly.
Alert message like below;

The second alert, "0 2000" is undesirable, because this information about Aframe on page 1.
"var subcol" ignores the page.
Could you teach me how to fix it, please?

DITAMAP structure not adopted in WebHelp
Hi All,
I'm fairly new to DITA but I'm getting along very well.
When I publish my DITA content to a WebHelp/HTML5 output in FrameMaker 2015, the complete structure of my ditamap gets lost and goes wild in the webhelp index.
It works well saving the content as PDF.
I know that FM2015 converts the .xml content to a FM file.
So here's my question:
What can I do to fix the structure chaos in the WebHelp index without having to work on it in RoboHelp?
I'd rather have the structure as it is in my DITAMAP taken over into the WebHelp index right away without touching it again.
FrameMaker 2015 crashes a lot when publishing, even using the latest Update/Patch ... any ideas anyone?

Text shifts when creating PDF
Hi there. I'm using FM 13.0.1.385 with structured XML.
We've had a few instances where when a book (or chapter) is printed to a PDF (using either the Print or Save as PDF options), you can see the text on the FM page shift and then return to the starting position once the print process is over, resulting in an incorrect PDF.
As an example, the last page of this 12-page FM file looks like this before we try to print:
When we hit the print button, the text temporarily shifts to look like this (and this is what the PDF looks like):
It then returns to the original layout.
At times, we've been able to create an accurate PDF using another machine and/or the other print option.
I've checked that we're logged into Creative Cloud.
I've checked that the fonts are synched from TypeKit or installed directly on the user machines.
I've checked the default printer setting.
This is not a continuous problem; it only happens sometimes, which makes it even weirder.
Any suggestions of other things to verify would be greatly appreciated.

Problems installing Framemaker 12
I'm trying to install FrameMaker 12.
I downloaded the following files from Adobe URL:
- Adobe_Framemaker_2017_English_Windows-AkamaiDLM.exe
- Framemaker_12_LREFDJ.7z
- Framemaker_12_LREFDJ.exe
I activated the 1st file and then the 3rd file.
I selected the free trial option and the installation was not able to complete.
I got the following message:

How to set/change the paragraph tags of a generatable file?
I have a Table of Contents and need to be able to set the included paragraph format tags for it using a script.
If I set the tags manually using the Set Up Table of Contents option, update the book and print Class BookComponent's ExtractTags property (BookComponent.ExtractTags) it shows the list of tags but I cant modify this property. Is there any way to do this?

Cannot initialize API client svg2pdf.dll (Fm 2017)
Hi group
I've got a ditamap with some 250 referenced SVG files. When I generate a FrameMaker book from my ditamap, I get the following error message:
Cannot initialize API client c:\program files\..\svg2pdf.dll
My "APIClients section" in my maker.ini seems to be OK and I have 16 GB RAM (running FrameMaker 2017 on Windows 7).
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Best Specs for DTP PC?
Hello FM Community!
Hopefully you guys could provide me with some much needed advice.
We're looking at purchasing a new office PC, which would primarily be used as a dedicated PDF printing machine as the processes have been slowing down other applications on our current desktops (which are fairly lacking on processing power). I was aiming to custom build to get the most for the money, but I wanted to know whether a graphics card has much impact on DTP tasks and printing speed, or whether it's purely down to the processor & RAM.
Currently our PC's are pushing out a fairly large manual at 6+ hours..
But after printing the same manual in a couple of other environments, we got the following results
Environment 1 (office pc): AMD A8-7600 Radeon R7, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G @ 3.10GHz - 8gb RAM = around 6 hours printing time
Environment 2 (laptop): i7-4770K @ 3.5GHz - 16gb RAM = 25 minutes printing time.
Environment 3 (home PC): i5-4310M @ 2.7GHz - 4gb RAM = 1 hour printing time.
Environment 4 (surface book): i7-6600U @ 2.6GHz / 2.8GHz - 16gb RAM = 5-6 hours printing time.
We want to make sure that we aren't going to end up in the same position we are now with an insanely slow printing time - as often some change may need to be made to a manual post-printing and we end up losing another 6 hours.

Why does spelling check in FrameMaker 11 not work in tables?
When i run the Spelling Checker in FrameMaker 11 document, it checks the body of text, but will not catch misspelled words in my tables. Is there a switch somewhere that is not checked?

Anchored frame formatting changes after saving .dita file
Hi,
I inserted some images at the insertion point (Anchoring Position: At Insertion Point). This works fine when I create the .dita file, but after saving and then re-opening the .dita file, the Anchoring position is set to Below Current Line.
Why does the Anchor Frame formatting changes upon saving the file? How do I prevent this from happening? Thank you for your help.

does Adobe call users using Trial versions
I had someone from Adobe call a user and ask about their Trial of Framemaker 2017. The Adobe rep was able to tell them how many Frame documents were open at the time of the call. What can Adobe see when we are using their products?

Automatic unit conversion?
Hi everyone,
Is there a way, using unstructured FrameMaker, to set up some kind of Conditional Text that will convert one unit of measure to another?
For example, if I have 120 mg/dL in my document - can I set up logic that will convert the number to 2162.4? (I know I can change the unit itself using conditional text.)
I am looking for something I can set up once and use 125 or so times throughout our manual.
Ideally I would like be able to be able to do something like: when Conditional Text Units is switched to mmoL, everyplace a number denoted as mg/dL is found (these numbers would have to be marked as such somehow), display = (variable) * 18.02
Companies must deal with this a lot when publishing manuals in other countries.

Framemaker 17 crashes when printing book PDF with certain AI graphics
I've got a book with a couple hundred graphics in AI files and I'm trying to wrap it up and get the PDF generated for printing.
All the graphics display just fine in FM, but when I try to book print the PDF the system will freeze on certain files which contain photos.
This AI file will print just fine:
This one, however, will crash Framemaker/distiller:
It just freezes here:
I have to close FM in windows and then delete all the lck files just to get it to function again.
Any ideas?
