AAM updates notifier application error
Hi,
I get the following error occasionally. I use a licensed Technical Communication Suite.
Sometimes the popup never shows up but when it does it shows up continuously. I then have to log off and log in again in the system.
Any suggestion on how this can be fixed?

Unknown File Type Error when opening a FrameMaker file
I have a FrameMaker file that I worked on last week but FrameMaker won't open today. I get an "Unknown File Type" dialog with a selection of file types that I can use to specify the source of the file. But, it is a FrameMaker file. The file is located on a network server, not my laptop. I have not encountered this error before. I googled it, but I found only discussions from 2009 or earlier. I am using FrameMaker 12.

TOC generation multiple errors in FM 2017
Hi all,
I've been a Frame user for nearly two decades and this is a new one on me. This has happened while creating two distinct and separate books, so it's time to ask for some help.
I've created my book chapters and built my books the usual way. My headings are numbered, and the numbering is correct within the book's individual files:
- Chapter numbers are of the correct argument within the Chapter Number tag.
- Head 1 (and all heading) numbers are of the correct argument within their tag.
All display and update correctly within the book's Chapter files when 'booked'; all book files have their numbering set correctly. This is legacy stuff, in use for years, not a hard thing.
But NOW, when I go to do a 'Create Standalone TOC', I'm getting these crazy-making errors:
- Page numbers in the TOC are getting replaced with an incomplete argument that doesn't really belong there at all: "$paratext>" (note the lack of the first delimiter)
- Heading levels and Paragraphs used to import correctly into the TOC and Reference Pages; now they do not.
- Page numbering in the TOC can be off by one page, when compared to the page footer - TOC says "Setup....13", when the actual page number is 14.
- A second example of this: My order is typically, Front Page and Title, TOC, LOT, LOF. (These are done in roman numerals, then restarted for the regular book; and this has always worked up to now.) The LOF page number in the footer is now always +1 from where it should be. Numbering is restarted correctly, specified correctly for each of these Front Matter files.
- Reference-Page-generated TOC items don't seem to make sense; editing the text and re genning the TOC has very mixed results; little of it helpful.
The only way I have been able to fix the first of these errors is to reboot (an incredibly huge pain on a PC with Security Rights Management!), delete the TOC, and try to run it again. Updating the book is hit-and-miss for it working correctly.
The only way I have been able to fix the second of these errors is to hand-code each of the heading levels with its own level of numbering in the Paragraph Designer. Essentially I'm creating the same level of hierarchy that I have in the document, something that Frame used to do automatically. I'm able to short-cut this a bit by opening one of the book files and just copying over the paragraph numbering schema from all four levels of headings. Still, from someone who has seen this work "automagically" in previous versions, we seem to have regressed,

glossary popup
Hi,
I am using Framemaker 17 to write a book file. I am using glossary markers and glossary term markers to generate a glossary.
I publish the file as pdf and as responsive HTML5. The glossary itself works fine. However, when I create the responsive HTML5, framemaker creates a folder with the name Glo$$aryPopup$ . The special characters are a problem for my company's subsequent workflow.
Is there a possibility to have influence on the folder name before it is created? So that the links dont include the $ signs.

FrameMaker using port 80 for non-http traffic?
We have a proxy that intercepts all port 80 traffic, and if non-http traffic is sent over port 80 the proxy rejects the traffic.
Does FrameMaker use port 80 for non-http traffic, and if so, how can we change that?#

TOC is not numbering any pages after the first page
I have a TOC, and the second page of it is not being numbered.
I have tried to replace the .fm file with one that worked in another book, but got the same results, which makes me think this issue is in the book itself.
Anyone have any ideas why this would not be working?

Text Insets and Conditional Text
I use text insets for individual software features and then import each one into a Release Note template - a sort of building block process. However, some features are not available for all versions of software due to hardware dependencies. How can I make my text inset conditional? I tried selecting just the text inset and a dialogue box appears asking if I want to make the text unconditional or delete the text. I tried selecting an empty paragraph marker before and after the text inset, and the same dialogue box appears. Also, with tables, is there anyway to remove the hash (xxxx) marks from the table when making them conditional?

HOW TO SET ROW FORMAT AND RESIZE COLUMNS FOR ALL TABLES IN A DOCUMENT.
Dear Experts,
I have an FM Document which contains lot of tables. How to set the Row Format and Columns Resize for all tables in the document. When i update the Font Style and Text Size in some cases the Table is becoming too small. So is there any way yo Resize Row & Columns so that it automatically adjust to the text size. I found 2 options in the FM but how to set this for the whole tables in the document is what i am facing issue now. Please guide me on this.

Cannot Lock File. Can't save or edit. HELP! Using Framemaker 2017
I'm working with a book and have a 2 page appendix that I'm now unable to edit or save. It states "Cannot lock this file for your use. Your changes to it may conflict with other users.
I can't save any edits or save as under another name. There are no .lck files on computer. All files are on local disk.
Any suggestions?

Conversion table adds empty rows to table
Hi,
I try to convert a table to structured FrameMaker that contains several paragraphs in a single cell. FrameMaker successfully converts the table but adds empty rows beneath the row containing the cell with multiple paragraphs in it.
The empty rows cannot be removed or changed.
Can anyone help me with this?

converting Framevector files
Hi all,
We are migrating some content to DITA. The migration tool seems to have spit out .framevector files instead of the images. The one sample doc I looked at had unreferenced .png files in Framemaker, but .framevector files with generic names were produced in the DITA output instead of retaining the images.
In Framemaker, the images had PNG and Framevector facets in the object properties.
It may be a case of sorting out the conversion process.But for this batch, does anyone know a way of converting these .framevector files? Or even viewing them? I can't find any program to even open these files.

Figure numbering stops working randomly
FrameMaker9 - windows 10
New to FrameMaker, been trying to insert new autonumbering figure titles in an existing document - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Not sure whats going on..
In Paragraph Design the paragraph was already created and I am using this formula in the autonumber format box:

doing Book save as PDF - getting "Can't launch Acrobat Distiller to create a PDF File" running FM 7.1 on Win 10 with Acrobat 11 - what does this message mean ? How can this be resolved? I do get a TPS file which distills to PDF fine.
How does FM 7.1 find Distiller when doing a book save as?
Is this environment feasible, FM 7.1, Win 10, Acrobat 11 ?

Adobe's downloads and support for Framemaker suck
I've been using computers for 30 yrs. I've been using Framemaker for 15 yrs.
Had problems with recent version, and need too re-install.
The 'method' Adobe is using for re-install / finfing is about the worst I've encountered. Terchnical Comms Suiter appears to forgotten- doesn't exist, let alone Framemaker.
Seriously looking for alternatives.

Framemaker 15 Doesn't Copy Workspaces Directory to the User Profile Location
Hi everyone,
I've encountered a weird problem. Newly installed Framemaker 15 (part of TCS) doesn't copy the Workspaces directory to C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\13\.
Manually copying the Workspaces directory (with all the files inside it) to this location doesn't help, as the custom workspace/menus/toolbar don't show up in FM.
Security-wise, I have full control of the FrameMaker\13\ directory, so it should be able to write to it.
Has anyone else encountered this issue on Win7?

What "standard ASCII characters" stands for in MIF reference?
Hello,
I am reading Mif reference from http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/mifreference/mifref.pdf and there is a sentence that says "because a MIF file can contain only standard ASCII characters and because of MIF parsing requirements, you must represent certain characters with backslash (\) sequences". When you open a mif file in notepad that has copyright character © in text, you can see it as is. So my question is which character set is used for writing MIF files, US_ASCII or some extension like ISO_8859?
