Can anyone tell me why, when I open a .ditamap file, it is placed inside another MAP element thus making it invalid? I have to move all my topicrefs from the original MAP to inside the new MAP and delete the old (now empty) MAP. Yet when I close/ open the ditamap again, the same thing happens.

On FM15 without Robohelp, is it possible to search CSH marker using a search parameters in HTML5 ? And get all the pages tagged by this CSH ?

A novice learning FM 2015, so far I have created a 171 page FM (not Book) file with several imported images as illustrations. I've mainly used a default right page master, but when I have added images (for example, PDF's) that were same size as a page (8.5X11), and didn't want to cover the default right master's added header/footer with that image, used second master that is blank.
When I carriage returned (hit Enter) to add a new page in the same flow (before a page break) in order to add a new image or new text, other previously imported images added to other pages have moved down by the number of pages added and are hiding the text on another page. Also probably added a few disconnected pages, not in a flow to try to prevent this problem.
Beginner's mistakes.
Now, left with this messy FM file, I find that I need to continue to add new pages, new images, a cover page, etc. Each time I try to add, I have the above problems. Ugh!
So, I need to try to fix this FM file, so that all flows and I can add new pages and new images without ruining the flow, without images moving to cover wrong pages, etc.
Would welcome any suggestions on how to fix this, so hopefully I can "get back on track" with a clean, flowing manuscript.

I am using FrameMaker 2015 and I am trying to open an FM Book that was created in FrameMaker 11. Everything works well until it gets to Chapter Four. When it tries to load the FM file for the chapter, FrameMaker freezes with the following error message:
When I click OK, FrameMaker shuts down without any explanation of the error or about how to fix the corrupted(?) file.
The file was created in Structure Frame. I am using Adobe FrameMaker Structured to try to open it. I am open to suggestions about how to open and fix the FM file. I can't even get into it to view the contents. Every instance of the file causes the crash - the main FM file, the backup FM file, the archive FM filem, and the VSS copy of the file.
Added: In Preferences, I changed from Structured FrameMaker to FrameMaker (unstructured). In doing so, I could open the file, but I get a warning that the file has structured information and that it will be lost if I continue. It gives me an option to open for viewing or to open for editing. At least I can view the contents of the file, but now I have to reconstruct the file to continue to use it in the book. I really do not want to go through 100+ pages of formatting and tagging to regain the structure.
Please help me if you can. It is a 538K file with only a little graphics, so that would be a major rewrite.

Hello all,
I use variables in my user guide, so that application and feature names are consistent and easy to change when product owners change them.
When I generate a PDF, the resulting TOC shows that the correct link does not include the variable text. So I have to each time manually stretch the link to cover the entire line. (see red circle below... "Patient Card" is a variable in the title)
Also, I'm getting all sorts of crap link boxes all over the first page of the TOC that lead to the same set link to some document that I don't use. (see all the boxes of varying sizes that all have to be manually deleted to uncover the correct links).
I had to reuse the settings from another document's TOC file, and so I inherited something from it that I can't find either in the master or reference page.
Any feedback or leads to topics about this would be appreciated.

Our team is having difficulty with publishing to Microsoft HTML Help.
We can produce the help file, but the "Contents" tree is messed up.
Here are the problems:
-Everything is appearing at the same level in the tree
-The very first contents topic shown is the name of the document rather than the first Chapter title
In "Style Mapping, I selected the "Split into topics based on this style" check-box for first three Headings.
This is the result I get:
The first topic is the name of the file, not the section in FrameMaker (Introduction). And everything is at the same level.
Can someone please walk me through the basic steps to produce an HTML help file with a proper contents tree?
There is virtually no help in the FrameMaker Help Document, nor online.

I have received a client's FrameMaker 2015 document that I need to prepare for translation. The book is comprised of over 900 .fm FrameMaker files each of which will need to be saved as a .mif file for use with SDL Trados Studio. Where can I find a script or a plugin for FrameMaker 2015 to allow me to batch process these .fm files without needing to Open > Save As each individual file? !
I have a new Lenovo T460 laptop with Windows 10.
I normally write with zoom at 140%.
Now statements in Courier font within InformalExample and Example elements do not display unless I reduce the Zoom to below 117.
They disappear as soon as I increase the zoom to anything above 116.
The underscore displays under all zoom settings in OTHER elements that do not use the Courier font.
When typed in a Courier font, the underscore is present but does not display when the Zoom is > 116%.
Also, the underscores no longer display in the content that existed in documents created on my old laptop.
The underscores do not behave thus when Zoom is modified in Word or Excel.
I have been going around and around on trying to get Technical Communication Suite 2015 installed on my computer.
I've uninstalled everything a couple times. I had a Framemaker 2012 and removed that too.
Before removing that Roaming/Adobe folder, I used to get just a couple errors. Now I get a ton.
Any ideas?

I generated a .pdf file from my FrameMaker 2015 Book file this morning, then updated a couple of master pages in one of the book's FrameMaker .fm files. When I tried to regenerate a new .pdf file, FrameMaker sent back the following error message:
"The selected PDF Job Option does not exist in the current installation. Either create this Job Option or select an available Job Option. Continue? (OK/Cancel)"
All PDF Job Options were functioning normally as of last evening, but now I cannot even select the single "Press Quality" option that appears in the PDF Job Options menu (PDF Setup for Selected Files > Settings Tab). I tried cold-booting my Windows 7 system (which was updated first thing this morning for Microsoft's compulsory Windows 7 updates) and relaunching FrameMaker, but no avail. Any guesses? Suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Does anyone have an idea as to the benefits of using Robohelp for FM conversion to HTML5 versus using direct publishing of FM to HTML5?
My company is interested in publishing extensive user manuals to HTML (and other formats) and would like to use our standard web css to format the output. I can't figure out for the life of me from the Adobe product information what RoboHelp would buy us.
When I did this for a previous company I used a third party tool (FM did not have this type of export at the time).
I'm very interested in hearing any thoughts or experiences any of you have both with and without FrameMaker.

I am doing a fair amount of work in an unstructured Framemaker document. However, I have to copy-paste text from one portion of the doc to several other locations. My issue is that whenever I do so, the pasted content is automatically inserted under the paragraph tag of that location. I have to stop and reformat whatever I just pasted into the same paragraph tag as the copied text.
I've tried all the Framemaker Paste Special options without any success.
This is annoying and inefficient when it has to be done a few dozen times a document.
Any suggestions?

FM is corrupting my files when I save a book, leaving temp .fm files, sometimes losing the .fm completely. FM also crashes when I do book updates. It's happened on three separate projects, all using very different templates. All unstructured. I'm on Win10. I've replicated the problems on all three of my Win10 machines, a Surface Pro 3, a Surface Pro 4 and a desktop. I recently rebuilt my Surface Pro 4, so it's completely clean and standard. My projects are stored in Dropbox, but the problem also appears when located on the local disk. No idea what's going on. Help!
Apologies for posting here, but I'm hoping someone will be able to advise me on a broader issue: I have a serious Acrobat question to do with certificates, and have posted to the relevant Acrobat forum. No response, and as far as I can see this is the only route to support! 'chat' is apparently "not available for my product" … The forum has always been a more than adequate support mechanism for FrameMaker – perhaps we just have more expert experts in our community ;-}
