Hello,

 

I am building in a FM 12 structured app for the Army's MIL-STD-2361 XML. The <xref> cross-reference element has multiple IDREF attributes, each specific to its associated element. For example @figid is for <figure>.

 

If this is a read/write rules issue, I can't figure out what it is. I get an error if more than one property cross-reference id is used.

We are using FrameMaker 11. In our manuals, we have a main TOC and a Chapter TOC. The main TOC is set up to display the chapter name plus each section within the chapter plus the page range of the section (e.g., 1 - 4). This is handled through the reference page using a "last page" tag.

The Main TOC has been set up to include three paragraph tags: Last Page, MSChapter Title, and Sect1Title.

When generated, MSChapter Title  goes to a page in this document Use Named Destination Name: G6.304456 and goes to the correct page.

Sect1Title goes to a page in this document Use Named Destination Name: G7.100161. When the link is clicked in the PDF file, it goes nowhere.

The Sect1Title hyperlink has worked in the past. Has any programming changed?

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

First, here is a picture to illustrate what I am trying to do:

Given an ElementRange, I am trying to find the upper and lower boundaries of that range, as in the FP_LocY values (show visually in yellow). The upper value is easy, because I can get the top element in the ElementRange. But I am not sure the best approach for getting the lower value. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

 

I am working on a complex script to search and replace certain terms. In essence, it searches for the offensive term, shows it on the screen in the file and gives you a dialog box with a suggested edit. Everything works great, but when I'm processing a book, it doesn't pull up the found text range and display it on screen. If you run the script on just a single file, it works great and you can see the offensive term in context. But if you run it on the book and progress your way through the chapters, the file displayed on screen never changes. I know it's running because the display line at the bottom of the book window lists the file it's checking. It just would be nice for users to see the context of the offensive term.

 

I've tried calling ScrollToText and Redisplay just after finding the term and neither have any effect. I'm guessing that the focus is on the book and that prohibits the focus to switch to the file?

 

Any ideas or suggestions of things to try would be very much appreciated. I have scoured the scripting guide, and it's too obscure for a generic Google search to find anything.

I can insert the cross-reference using Special - Cross-Reference and "Source Type: Paragraph" but then when I click on "insert," the Source Type changes to "Cross-Reference Markers"  which I don't want to use.  Why is it changing?  This happens randomly, and I haven't figured out any way to use only Paragraphs as the source type for cross-references.

Need help deciding what to purchase if need 2 licenses for Framemaker and Acrobat Pro.

We are a small book publisher and are currently using Framemaker 10. We need to upgrade and could use help deciding what is best to purchase. We have 2 users using both Framemaker and Acrobat Pro. Thanks.

Hi Adobe Framemaker Community,

 

I am currently a newbie evaluating whether Adobe Framemaker 2015 will be a viable solution for where I work to support DITA authoring.

 

Two must-have key features that we are looking at to support our DITA content are the following:

Versioning & Branching

"In most DITA authoring Editors and corresponding DITA supported CMS, there are two ways of versioning content, branches and version releases.

 

Creating a version release for a topic creates an  unalterable archive of the content at that specific point in time. It’s useful to create a version release for each new version or milestone because then the archive can be viewed after you’ve made changes to the file or to generate output from it.

 

Branching a map creates copies of each of its components in a new branch. It allows you and others to edit the branched content without altering the master branch. If you want to push changes between the branches, you can do so when you need to.

 

Branches are different from releases in that branches are editable copies of the branched content that allow you to push changes made in one branch to another. Whereas releases are snapshots of content that are archived and unalterable."

 

My questions are:

1. Does Adobe Framemaker 2015 support release versioning for DITA content?
   1. If yes how is the release versioning content stored in AEM from Adobe Framemaker 2015 since what AEM currently considers "versioning" from the DITA authoring perspective is usually considered as a "revision" and not release version?
   2. I.E. How does AEM identify the different release version of the same DITA content?
2. Does Adobe Framemaker 2015 support branching for DITA content?
   1. If yes how is the branched content stored in AEM from Adobe Framemaker 2015?
   2. I.E. How does AEM identify the different branches of the same DITA content?
3. If Adobe Framemaker 2015 integrated with AEM does not support release versioning or branching does anybody know how this could be customized in Adobe Framemaker 2015 and AEM as these are very common features in many DITA authoring editors and CMS systems that store and publish DITA content?
   1. Also from your experience what was the complexity to implement these features?

The question has been asked before (in 2013!), but is still marked unanswered. So, once again:

I have a FM book, let's call it "Basics", which should include a lot of references to a PDF doc (which is NOT FM-based), let's call it "Supplement.pdf". When I print "Basics.book" to "Basics.pdf", I can add so-called deep links from "Basics.pdf" to "Supplement.pdf" using Acrobat DC. No Problem with that, but when I update "Basics.book" and have to produce "Basics.pdf" once again, all the linking gets lost, of course.

So, all I want to do is place these links in the FM documents included in "Basics.book" and propagate them to "Basics.pdf". According to a sample table entry on the Adobe FM web help, the gotolink syntax of FM should support named targets. But apparently it doesn't, since the referenced document always opens on the first page, and not on the page the target refers to.

I'm using FM 2015 (structured), and yes, the target I'm trying to refer to does exist in the other PDF file, and yes, I know it's case-sensitive (I simply copied its name from the target PDF to the FM Dialog box to avoid a typo).

Any suggestions how i could proceed?

Using Framemaker 2015 on Windows 7 platform

 

Background:

I have a master document containing all my product warnings. Each warning is contained in a separate text frame with a unique flow tag. This way I can import as a text inset, but easily maintain consistency between similar warning wording. Importing a text inset allows me to select/import according to the flow tag.

 

Example:

The tagline READ MANUAL IN ENTIRETY occurs five times in the master warning document with each flow tag slightly tweaked according to application (read manual in entirety_software, read manual in entirety_equipment, read manual in entirety_ssvr). To find one I am looking for (for the purpose of editing) requires me to look at the object properties of each painstakingly one at a time.

I can’t modify the text frame to provide this detail since I import the entire contents of a text frame into my manuals.

 

Goal:

I would like to create a list of these text flow tags to use like a TOC:

read manual in entirety_software________________ 17

read manual in entirety_equipment______________ 18

read manual in entirety_ssvr___________________ 24

Working on a document yesterday, saved it without error. Went to open it today and FM crashes with the following error: Internal Error 12044, 5309203, 5319262, 5320132. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit.  Even the .backup.fm file is crashing FM.

 

The document is only 3 pages, about the only thing that is different from similar documents is that I had imported a SVG instead of our normal PNG.

 

Any ideas?  Can I edit the file in another program to remove the SVG reference?

Using FM2015 Publish to HTML5 Responsive. I'm writing documentation for programmers, which includes sections of source code. What is the best way to format in my FM doc so that it is published to HTML using the PRE tag (i.e. use the original textual indentation and formatting).

 

Can I map a paragraph format in FM to output (publish) using the PRE tag in HTML?

I just installed FM 2015 which says it has a 30 day trial for MathFlow, but clicking Special > MathML Equation... does nothing.  Do I need to get a trial license from Design Science?

Muscle-memory tells me I can hold down Shift to draw straight lines with the graphics tools, but whenever I tried this yesterday it simply cancelled the line-drawing operation. FM 2012 – have I so far failed to notice/stumble upon an "improvement" over earlier versions?

 

It was worth persisting, though, for the awe and amazement on the developer's face: "you mean those are three separate, editable graphics in that diagram? and the connectors are separate too?"

Here is a screenshot to illustrate my question:

I have an ElementRange as illustrated by the selection in the screenshot. I need to add the two follow li elements to the ElementRange because they have the same status attribute value ("new"). Give an ElementRange, how do I add the next sibling element to the ElementRange? I am content with adding them one at a time, if necessary. I have some ideas and will post some code, but I am trying to get a head-start by asking here. Thank you very much.

The search didn't return anything, but I feel I'm repeating a question I've seen before … I can tweak the predefined system variable Modification Date Long to end up with a variable that shows {monthname year} in body text, but I can hardly approve of myself for doing so! is there no way to create a user variable that can use the date and time building blocks? I'm still on FM2012, and not likely to be upgrading for a while.

I just installed Framemaker 2015 Trial, after a bios upgrade that rendered Framemaker 2012 unusable (it won't start and wouldn't after I tried several times to reinstall it) on my new Dell laptop. After failing several times, I uninstalled every Adobe product on the computer except Flash and Air and rebooted (also several times), and tried again - still won't start, for both fm 12 and 2015. Is there an installation procedure beyond just running Setup that I need to know about? If so, where can I get it? I'm a 15+ year user of Framemaker (7 or 8 versions, bought and paid for) and do nearly all my work on it, but this is getting very frustrating.

Here's the thing... I downloaded Framemaker 2015 XML Author version, and I can't locate certain things like font size changes and bullet point creation to construct the type of document I want to make.  I think I should have downloaded Framemaker (the unstructured version). I went so far as to uninstall and reinstall it, but that didn't work.  I was surprised.  How do I switch to Framemaker--unstructured version, please?  Thanks
