Good morning to everybody,
we are facing an issue using the table in FRAMEMAKER 10.
We have a table, composed by 4 columns for the whole widht of the page. The rows number is not established because the first one of them is filled by getting there information from the DB.
To be honest all of them are filled by information retrieved from the DB, but with the first one we face the issue.
The information of the first column is composed by 188 rows ( this number is true for one case, the others have different rows) and when the page finish (bottom of page) the table is not able to break ( more or less at 91th row) and start againg in the next page.
Right now it continues to insert the rows in the un-break table and as you could imagine these rows disappear from the screen continuining somewhere we are not able to see.
It seems to extend ( in invisible way) the length of the page.
I hope the system allows me to configure how I can stop the insert phase at the end of the page and start again in the next one.
Did someone of you already face this kind of problem? If so how did you solve the issue?
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Luca
Dear experts,
I have an ini-file and want to read the value of a distinct entry. Within the script the item is found and its value also. Outside the script the value is undefined.
What happens? Any ideas are welcome.
var value; GetIniValue ("FM-biblio.ini", "04_DoingBook", value); alert ("value read is " + value); function GetIniValue (sIniFile, sValueName, sValue) { // ----------------------------------------------- Read an ini item into a variable // iniFile must end with a line containing some blanks. // sValueName is that used in the ini-file (with the prepending #_ (e.g. "04_DoingBook") var thisLine, match, notFound = true; var regex = { section: /^\s*\[\s*([^\]]*)\s*\]\s*$/, param: /^\s*([\w\.\-\_]+)\s*=\s*(.*?)\s*$/, comment: /^\s*;.*$/ } ; settingsFile = new File($.fileName.replace (/[^\\\/]+$/i , sIniFile)); // method Ric Quatro settingsFile.open("r"); while(true) { thisLine = settingsFile.readln(); if (settingsFile.eof) { // at end of the file we are done break; } if (thisLine === null || thisLine === "") { // skip blank lines continue; } if (regex.comment.test(thisLine)) { // skip comment lines continue; } if (regex.section.test(thisLine)) { // ignore section lines continue; } match = thisLine.match(regex.param); // ignore undefined contents if (match[1] == sValueName) { sValue = match[2]; alert ("GetIniValue: sValueName " + sValueName + ", sValue read = " + sValue); notFound = false; break; // no need to continue while loop } } if (notFound) { alert ("GetIniValue program error - sValueName " + sValueName + " not found in sIniFile " + sIniFile); stop; } settingsFile.close(); } // --- end GetIniValue
The alert on line 34 reports "GetIniValue: sValueName 04_DoingBook, sValue read = no", but outside the value is undefined.
The ini file contains these lines:
... 03_ListItems = yes 04_DoingBook = no 05_Template = FM-biblio-tpl.fm ...
Hi,
FM12. I would like better control of hyphenation, such as never hyphenating the last word of a paragraph. Ideas?
Cheers,
Sean
Am looking for some ideas to spruce up a rather plan user guide that is US-letter size. The FM templates are rather boring. I can't use color. Perhaps a link to a PDF or something that will give me more ideas or get my creative juices flowing?
Thanks,
Sean
Trying to find out why the code below is not deleting all files from the target folder.
After some test it appears that only graphic files (jpg, png, gif) are being removed, skipping pdf, txt, eps, doc, docx, etc.
Have you seen this happening before? Thanks,
#target framemaker var aGraphicFiles = []; //Check for target folder existance, if not, create. var myTargetFolder = new File("C:\\Basket2\\XML Tests\\BookFolder\\Resources\\DeleteMe"); if (!checkFolderExists(myTargetFolder)){ //target folder does not exist myTargetFolder = new Folder("C:\\Basket2\\XML Tests\\BookFolder\\Resources\\DeleteMe"); myTargetFolder.create(); } //Check if folder DeleteMe is empty myTargetFolder = new Folder("C:\\Basket2\\XML Tests\\BookFolder\\Resources\\DeleteMe"); aGraphicFiles = myTargetFolder.getFiles(); if (aGraphicFiles.length != 0){ for (i=0; i<aGraphicFiles.length; i++){ //scan array var sourceChild = aGraphicFiles[i]; if (sourceChild instanceof File){ sourceChild.remove(); } if (sourceChild instanceof Folder){ alert("I found a folder"); } } } function checkFolderExists(myObj){ var flagEx = false; if (myObj.exists){ flagEx = true; //alert("myTargetFolder exists"); } else { flagEx = false; //alert("myTargetFolder does NOT exist"); } return flagEx; }
Is there a way to add simple back and next buttons to the header? I've set my CSS up to give me company logos etc, and the breadcrumb links, but breadcrumbs only allow you to go back (hence the name). I thought I saw a post on this before, but an hour of scouring yesterday failed to find it.
Greetings,
Our guys are using Framemaker build 11.0.2.384. When they open some of their books and perform a save operation they receive Internal Error: 11024, 22215748, 22269761, 22287647. They dont even have to change anything. Just open the book and try to make a copy of it with "Save book as". They report the faulty books are usually the relatively larger ones. Is there anything they can check for?
I've included a screenshot of the error, and the log file it refers to below.

Hello,
I noticed FM removes any indentation when working with XML files and they become very hard to read with a plain text editor. FM's XML View has the Pretty Printing option which indents the text very neatly but as soon as I make any changes on the file, the indentation is gone. Is there a macro to automatically apply Pretty Printing when saving files?
Thanks!
Hi,
There is a change from FM11 to FM2015 with XML import regarding carriage returns. I was wondering if someone could explain it. I'm not sure if it is related to the other FM2015 whitespace discussions to date.
Here is my XML file with zero whitespace (but carriage returns), opened with the default app and no validation:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><test><p>TEST</p><p>TEST</p><p>TEST</p></test>
In FM11, it opens as I would expect:
In FM2015, I get a paragraph with a single whitespace where the carriage return is:
This doesn't happen when I use a structure app with normal validation. Can anyone explain what has changed?
Thanks,
Russ
Does anyone know someone with FrameMaker experience to work as a Temp in the northern Illinois area?
I am currently testing out (unstructured) Framemaker 2015 for my company. We develop manuals and instruction guides for machines. I have purchased the Framemaker: Creating and Publishing Content by Matt Sullivan. However, there are a few things that I really need to know before I can give an accurate verdict on the program to my superiors.
1. How to caption images properly? And subsequently, how to number those captions? I've tried with text frames and using the paragraph designer, by adding in "Fig. <n+> - \t" but every time I create a new text frame, the second caption is still labeled "1." I've also tried with text lines, but that didn't work. I even went to Format>Documents>Numbering and selected the paragraph option to continue on with numbering or whatever (I do not have the program on my current computer). The book barely touched on this at all and the brief blurb that was written didn't help explain the process to me.
2. Creating Object Styles: When applying an object style to images I import, even though I have the anchored frame selected as "Below Current Line" and positions "Left" or "Right," the image keeps centering. When I try to adjust it, I get a message that says I cannot move the anchored frame from that position. Instead I have to go to Anchored Frames and adjust it, and it says it is CENTERED when I KNOW that I did not have "Center" selected when designing the object style.I have the runaround properties selected at 12pt in the object style designer because we need line spacing between text and images. When i do not have the runaround properties selected, it works fine. The book only has two pages dedicated to Object Style Designer and doesn't really touch on what it can do, just that it's there and here's the basic outline of how it works.
I also would like to have spacing between the above text and image to work. The Runaround Properties don't really actually give me any space between the image when using the Object Style, and I can't even change it after the fact.
I'm quite frustrated with the Object Style Designer. it seems the only thing it can do is resize all my photos efficiently, but I have to have that spacing and the placement of these images to make purchasing Framemaker worthwhile for the company, otherwise it's no better than Word for what we need.
Hi,
I have a three-page 2015 document. The bulk of each page is an anchored frame that contains two side-by-side graphics. On each page, either the top or the bottom of one image is missing. For example, on the first page, the left image should be the same height as the anchored frame, which is not quite 7.5". It seems that the image is cropped about 1.5" from the top; I get the larger, lower portion, but not the top. On the other two pages, the problem is with the right image in the pair, and it is the bottom that is missing: about an inch high section on page 2 and half an inch on page 3.
This version of the document is unstructured. The images are taller than the anchored frame, so I expect them to be cut off at the borders of the frame, but not in the middle.
The document prints correctly to my local printer.
Any ideas about how to fix the problem?

Hello fellows,
Has anyone tried running the Externalize.jsx created by Adobe in FM13? It does not work for me at all.
It used to partially work in FM10...
Here is the list to the script:
ExtendScript of the Week: Externalizing Graphics – TechComm Central by Adobe
Thanks,

Hi All...
Trying to get my head around this feature, which looks awesome enough. However, I publish to HTML5 and topics get cut off at the bottom - they don't scroll. Am I missing something important? Surely this can't be as designed!
You can see the absence of a scroll bar... There's much more to this topic, but there's no way to get to it.
Thanks cud
Hi all,
We're currently in the process of publishing some of our service manuals in HTML5 format for web/mobile device usage.
We seem to have sorted out most issues but one remains.
We want to be able to click on an icon or text on the HTML5 page and open a PDF (wiring diagram) as a separate document in Acrobat Reader.
I can't seem to find a way to make this happen other than by editing the HTML code post-publishing (a href).
Is there a way to encode this action from within FrameMaker 2015?
Thanks in advance,
Adrian Cherry
The Add/Edit Variable dialog opens blank when I select a user variable and click the edit button. Why is this not working?
I'm trying to publish from FM 11 to SharePoint 2010+. How do I customize the output or change the settings so I keep the SharePoint ribbon and menus? I can't publish directly to SharePoint and IT does not support it, so I have to upload all the files manually.
So, here is the problem - when attempting to export to XML from a page I randomly receive the following message:
This is completely random and can fix itself after a random period of time. Inspecting what the application is doing leads me to believe the following files are involved in the export:
0x000000006f730000 0xc000 c:\program files (x86)\adobe\adobeframemaker12\filters\fmexport.dll
0x000000002b430000 0xcb000 c:\program files (x86)\adobe\adobeframemaker12\filters\isgdi32.dll
0x000000000f9a0000 0x22000 c:\program files (x86)\adobe\adobeframemaker12\filters\imfmv2.flt
0x0000000010970000 0x27000 c:\program files (x86)\adobe\adobeframemaker12\filters\ebgif2.flt
The application does not seem to access the files when its in a failure state, has anyone seen this issue before - or alternately know how I can force FrameMaker to output a diagnostic log file?
