Hi everyone. When publishing to Responsive HTML5 in Framemaker 2015, I am only achieving a flat TOC. The TOC levels work fine in Framemaker and when saving out to pdf, and the reference page appears to be set correctly. Any tips or advice?

Hotspots in FM10

Hi, I´ve an issue with FM10 and hotspots.

When I call to a figure/graphic/image from a Data Module (S1000D 2.3) wich has hotspots the FM does not charge automatically them.

I mean, other partners open the same files and when opening the cgm file in the DM the isoview starts and shows the hotspots inside the technical illustration to select them, but I don´t know why in my FM, Isoview does not start (it is installed too).

Could somebody help me? I have reinstalled isoview, FM, etc... and the problem persist.

Does another way to include hotspots exists?

Thanks in advance.

Javi.

FrameMaker 11 - Error in PDF Generation

Hi,

I'm working on FrameMaker 11 for a book having more than 500 pages (Unstructured FM).

But when I try to generate PDF of the book, it displays the following error message:

FM Error.jpg

If I click on OK or close the error message, it asks to close the FrameMaker immediately as it has a problem.

Can anyone help me to overcome this issue? Which kind of error it is?

I tried to send a help request on fmerror@adobe.com (provided in error message), but I've not got any response yet.

Thanks in advance.

Is there a fix yet for IORs that do not generate "Imported Graphics"?

$

I know it works in v11. But it definitely does NOT in v12 (at least not the version I have installed). Is there a patch that fixes this? What is everyone doing for a workaround?

BG: I use IORs (indexes of references) to check my large books' fonts, external xrefs, conditional text, and most importantly imported graphics. Books that worked flawlessly in v11 to create all of these in my IOR do NOT create the imported graphics entries in v12, even though all other generated entries in the IOR update successfully.

FrameMaker 2015 - spacing gaps appearing - variables corrupted?

I've upgraded from FrameMaker 11 to FrameMaker 2015 and some variables seem to have gotten corrupted.

This is an example of one of my variables in FrameMaker 11:

This is how that variable displays in FrameMaker 2015, with a huge gap between the first two words:

I've tried updating the character tags in the definition, substituting other character tags, and even rebooting my system, all with no solution. Is there a problem with variables in FM2015?

My operating system is Windows 7.64.

PDFSize error information

(FM12 on Win7)

When I run Format > Document > Optimize PDF Size > Optimize File, the FM console includes information like the sample below.

Does this indicate errors that the process corrected, residual errors, or benign information?

If residual errors, what do they indicate so I know where to go to fix them?

Is it possible to create templates without odd-even pages for use in digital content? Without the traditional right page, left page book format? Would it be easy to migrate to such a template if you've always used odd-even page template?

Hi Team,

There are unwanted characters appearing after generating PDF from framemaker, although FM file doesnt has such data.

Attached print screen, I will really appreciate if someone provides the solution for this issue. I am using frame maker 15 version.

This characters are x in rectangle at several places, same issue doesnt come up if I generate PDF of independent chapters, but generating a FM book and then converting it into a PDF it happens.

Please provide the solution.

Thanks and regards

Stylesheet that worked in FM11 throwing up issues with FM2015

Morning all,

I've been trying to do setup stuff for 2015 for importing XMLs (up until now i've just been playing around with existing books in 2015) and i'm getting some issues with the stylesheet trhowing up errors, some of them are mapping/linking dtd locations but i'm not too fussed on them. one i've got thats causing me a bit of issue is:

XSLT Processor Messages

Fatal Error at file C:\AM\Application\OG-Import.xsl, line 1438, char -1, Message: Arithmetic operator is not defined for arguments of types (xs:string, xs:decimal)

Arithmetic operator is not defined for arguments of types (xs:string, xs:decimal)

The section is question being:

<xsl:template name="Get-size">

        <xsl:param name="length"/>

        <!-- Get the number part by blanking out the units part and discarding white space. -->

        <!--xsl:variable name="number" select="normalize-space(translate($length, '+-0123456789.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz', '+-0123456789.'))"/-->

        <xsl:variable name="number" select="normalize-space(translate($length, '+-0123456789 abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz', '0123456789'))"/> (Offending article)

                <!-- Get the units part by blanking out the width part and discarding white space. -->

        <xsl:variable name="units" select="normalize-space(translate($length, 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz+-0123456789.', 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'))"/>

        <!-- Output the length, translated into mm -->

        <xsl:variable name="length-in-mm">

            <xsl:choose>

                <xsl:when test="$units='cm'">

                    <xsl:value-of select="$number * 10"/>

                </xsl:when>

                <xsl:when test="$units='mm'">

                    <xsl:value-of select="$number"/>

                </xsl:when>

                <xsl:when test="$units='in'">

                    <xsl:value-of select="$number * 25.4"/>

                </xsl:when>

                <xsl:otherwise>

                    <!--Assume 300dpi for pixels -->

                    <xsl:value-of select="$number * 25.4 div 300"/>

                </xsl:otherwise>

            </xsl:choose>

        </xsl:variable>

        <xsl:value-of select="format-number($length-in-mm, '#.00')"/>

    </xsl:template>

The xsl is a carryover from what previous author used so i didn't create it, but this is the exact xsl being referenced for import in my FM11, and just works. as far as i can tell, any other import stuff is also identical between the two so, um, help?

As a stop gap, as i'm sorting out with finance to fund the full license, when i upgrade to the full 2015, does that remove my 11 license, as in the interim i can create books in 11 and work on them in 2015. not the ideal solution, but going to be a bit stuck otherwise. Dare say the style sheet could do with an update but as i've not done one before that may take some time.

Cheers

FM 2015: how to fix Charcoal Grey layout zoom/scaling bug on iOS?

$

I've been working on a branded layout for our Responsive HTML5 output from FrameMaker. I started with the Charcoal Grey layout files, which are available here: RoboHelp screen profiles and layouts

I only noticed after customizing the layout stylesheet that the Charcoal Grey layout -- unlike the default and Azure Blue layouts -- has an annoying bug on iOS which causes things to "grow" (not sure what the scaling/zoom issue is here) when the device orientation changes, basically rendering our manuals unusable. Has anyone figured out a way around this? Is there something we can tweak in the Charcoal Grey layout to make it behave nicely on the iPhone and iPad?

Questions about conversion tables in FrameMaker - Migration to DITA

$

Hello,

I am currently working on a migration project for my firm.

I am using conversion tables to transform our FM files into DITA files and come across a few issues I would like to discuss with you.

Do you know if it possible to perform the following actions:

  • How to Split one FrameMaker file into several Dita files?
  • How to rename the output files, if there is a way to do so automatically?
  • Is there a way to assign IDs to the DITA elements (step tags for example) automatically, via the conversion table?

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Marc

Resolving Splash Screen Issue in Mobile App

I am creating an Android mobile app from a book. When in Publish Settings > Application Details, when I try to change the Splash Screen image it reverts to the Icon image.

I locate the Icon image and then the splash screen image. After selecting the Splash screen image the image that displays in the dialog box is the Icon image.

After generating the apk the Icon is OK but the Splash screen briefly displays a white screen.

I have tried to follow instruction in the Help but it still reverts back when I edit Settings.

I'm supposed to have the mobile app publisher in FrameMaker 12, but I don't see it in the Publish tab when I click File-->Publish. Does anyone know how I can find it or why it's not there? I've never used it before, but I'd like our team to start.

SGML Parser Recommendations

$

I have heard advice (opinions) suggesting that the FrameMaker 13 (2015)Parse Structured Document functionality is dated and not always reliable. Does anyone have experience with a trusted SGML parser that supports Unicode, for checking markup before delivering it to my customers? I understand nothing is 100%. I'm just looking for comments about good experiences. I am saving out of Structured FrameMaker as XML, with post-processing that produces DTD-compliant SGML.

Thanks for your interest and time,
