Help!!!

 

I'm trying to automate finding text in a FM11 file and tagging it with a specific para tag. Once it's tagged, I want to be able to search for the same string again and delete it. The search will include wildcards. I'm moving Word files over and bringing them in with manual numbering of paragraphs. So, when they come in, they have "2.3.4.5" in front of the paragraphs for instance. I want to search for all numbers at beginning of paragraphs, tag all those with the appropriate para format (from a catalog) and then delete the manual numbering.

 

Right now we do this manually, by using Find/Replace and using wildcard search strings to find (such as "\P[1-9]*.*.*.*[0-9]", which will find all para numbering with 4 digits at the beginning of a para), and then using the Change By Pasting option to paste in a para tag from the catalog. Then we rerun the same search and delete the text, leaving only the para tag formatted numbering. It works great, but errors can arise if the search string in put incorrectly or if the numbers are not deleted (in this case, it is found on the next search and retagged improperly). For example

 

I work for the Air Force gathering inputs from the field and creating publications out of them, so there's no profit motive here, just trying to be efficient. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

FrameMaker 2015 trial installation: Installer stops, saying it cannot initialize and pointing me to the Adobe Support Advisor, a tool which discontinued apparently. I get the error message in my language (German) irrespective of which language trial version I downloaded. My Win7Pro computer already had FM8 installed, but this one now requires me to register again, which fails.

Hi everybody,

 

I wrote an application using the FDK that simply opens a book, saves it as pdf (using API call F_ApiSave and FS_FileType=FV_SaveFmtPdf). Everything works like a charme but the page size. The book contains several A4 documents but the final PDF is created using the US Letter format resulting in a too short page.

 

If I export manually the book (using Framemaker interactively) the resulting PDF contains A4 sized pages.

 

I already tried to set the Adobe PDF printer default settings via the Control Panel (I set A4 as default page size).

 

Hopefully someone can point me out to a solution.

To insert a graphic, Alt F I F no longer seems to work, nor does Esc F I F.

What is the keyboard shortcut to insert a graphic into a FrameMaker 2015 frame? Thanks!

Greetings!

 

I have users that run FrameMaker 12 and periodically the application crashes and produces an error log and associated internal error codes. Can we get a translation of the error codes so we can diagnose the issues? And if not the entire list can we get the most common ones?

 

After reviewing the error logs of multiple computers I have noticed patterns in the error codes. Two of the most common codes are 12024 and 12004. I did some digging and it appears that 12004 is related to network connectivity internal error 12004, 4454010, 7384245. But I would really like to know what 12024 means as well.

 

And at the moment I can't send the error logs to Adobe for security reasons (which is why i would really like to know what the codes mean).

Dear all,

Once again it seams that I "put the cart before the horse" to do the following:

- In the current document i have a text selection and want to re-apply the pgf format from the catalogue to the current pgf.

- Taking the properties from the catalogue and applying to the current pgf does nothing.

I tried with paragraph designer and it worked but when I opened the xml again it did not save the centering.

I Am using section numbering in the footer and it looks great.

When I generate the table of contents it is returns to a blank. The variable is there but it is empty.

Figured out how to center text in a cell using the paragraph designer but it will not save.

This is an already existing table that someone else put together.

I have a file open in Structured FrameMaker 13 and the cursor in position to insert a Trademark symbol. Selecting the menu options (none of which are "grey'd out") File > Utilities > Character Palette... , no subsequent window or palette seems to open or become available in the menu bar. Does anyone know what I am apparently missing?

When my FrameMaker2015 creates an AcrobatDC PDF, the output is sprinkled randomly with multiple blank pages, sometimes several in a row. How can I prevent this?

When will the whole ATCS (2015 release) be compatible with Windows 10?

As far as I know, now only RoboHelp is working on Windows 10. How about other tools?

 

When trying to install the whole suite or Captivate or FrameMaker separately, I receive the following error:

In Swedish we have 3 letters at the end of the alphabet, å, ä and ö (in that order). If I make a table and ask FM to sort it for me, all letters come in the right order. But if I create an index FM treats ö as an o, and å and ä as a.

 

Is there a way to fix this? We use FM 7.2

Using FrameMaker2015, I created a DITA 1.2 topic and create a document but whenever I generate a pdf file from DITA-OT output, the headings always comes with underline like this:

How to ignore those underlines? I tried all that I can in master page view, but couldn't ignore it. By the way, If I only save the doc in pdf mode, then underlines disappear. Please help by giving any clue. Thanks a lot in advance!!

With FrameMaker 2015. When I generate the TOC from a new .book, I get blank pages between each page of the TOC, They are completely blank not even a text frame. I click Add> Create standalone TOC. I keep the default settings. And this is what I end up with.

I can get rid of them through Special> Delete Pages. But I never had to do that before the 2015 version. I have tried with older files that generated fine in Frame 10; same thing. Has anyone encountered this?

I purchased a subscription to Adobe Technical Communications Suite. One of my decision points was several of the new features included with Adobe Presenter 11. TCS comes with Presenter 10. Technical support tells me that they have had many expressions of concern that the suite is shipping with an outdated version of Adobe presenter. The Presenter team has not informed the support team as to when or even if Presenter 11 will be included in the TCS download.

Presenter 11's new features are critical enough to me that the functionality I thought I would be getting with TCS is seriously degraded. This is a business effectiveness issue at my end.

Adobe's TCS web page does say that it includes Presenter 10, but when you click though for more information, you are taken to the Presenter 11 page.

I see that I can subscribe to Presenter 11 separately. That pretty much defeats the purpose of purchasing a subscription to the suite, and I should not have to even be considering whether I should purchase the additional subscription.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a significant FAIL on Adobe's part.

This is an issue that frustrates Adobe the Adobe TCS support team, too, since they have to deal with frustrated customers who cannot get access to the current version of a business-critical application they thought they were buying.

What would it take to make me a happy customer? Simply provide me with access to the non-trial Presenter 11 download so that I can install it and get to work.

I have several problems using the background color of a paragraph box in FrameMaker 12.

 

1. Sometimes, but not always, when a paragraph continues from the bottom of the first column to the top of the second, the color stops about 3/4", more or less, from the bottom margin. The last three or four lines are on a white background.

 

2. If I color the background of two or more sequential paragraph boxes a thin uncolored line separates them. This is most obvious when I feather the columns, since the spaces between paragraphs may increase.

 

3. If I set a line above or below a paragraph, marking it off, the color does not reach all the way to the line.

 

4.When I place a figure in an anchored frame, and the frame is set to be placed at the top of the column, it is likely to appear in the middle of a paragraph that continues from one column to the next. If that paragraph box is assigned a background color, the color also appears as a sort of frame around the figure and as a background to the caption.

 

I will appreciate any suggestions as to how I can correct these issues. Thank you.

So, I've been able to fight my way up to a point to where I can search for a string, apply a para format, then replace the found string. Works great!  Thanks, Russ, for the assist...

 

Now, does anyone know how to enter a carriage return as part of a find/replace? I've tried to just use "\r" and several combinations of that but can't figure it out. I need to find a specific text string, go to the end and enter a carriage return.

 

Also, along similar lines, when using the find function in the UI, you can put \P (for beginning of the para) and other criteria (like \t for tab stop). Does anyone know how to use those features in script?

 

Below is what I'm using for the search and apply formatting, just for sharing purposes, it works fine, just looking to extend features. It could probably be done a bit more elegantly, but if it works...
